Irene Alfaro Abarca​

PhD Student on Microbial Desalination Fuel Cell ​
Chemical Engineer from the University of Murcia (2022), she furthered her education with a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the same university. She has two years of experience in the private sector, contributing to projects related to water treatment.​

Currently, after being awarded a Predoctoral Research Fellowship (R1) under the University of Murcia’s Research Promotion Plan for 2026, she is developing her PhD thesis, focused on desalination technology using microbial fuel cells and microalgae for the treatment of agricultural leachates, water desalination, and bioelectricity production.​
