Dr. Joaquín Quesada Medina

Joaquín Quesada Medina is a Full Professor in the Department of Engineering Chemistry at the University of Murcia. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (1991), with an Extraordinary Bachelor's Degree Award, and a Doctorate in Chemical Sciences, with the maximum qualification (Apt cum laude). He later got a postdoctoral assistantship of the Ministry of Education and Culture for the “Exchange of Research Personnel between Industries and Public Research Centers” that allowed him to carry out a stay of investigation of 5 months (1997) in the company Furfural Español, S.A., in its factory Alcantarilla (Murcia). ​

He carried out a 16-month postdoctoral stay (1998-1999) at the École Nationale Supérieure des Ingénieurs en Arts Chimiques et Technologiques, Institut National Polytechnique of Toulouse (France). His current research lines are mainly focused on the comprehensive exploitation of microalgae for the production of biodiesel and bioactive compounds, using supercritical fluids and ionic liquids for this purpose. They also focus on the simulation and optimization of chemical and biochemical processes using machine learning tools.​

His scientific production is summarized in more than 75 paper articles. Finally, it is worth highlighting his participation in more than 20 funded research projects in regional, national and European competitive public calls, acting as Principal Investigator in 9 of them. He has also participated in 10 research contracts with private companies.​
