Dr. Francisco José Hernández-Fernández

Francisco José Hernández Fernández is Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering from the University of Murcia. Bachelor of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University de Murcia with Extraordinary End of Degree Award in both degrees and Mention of Honor in the National Awards for Completion of University Studies in Engineering Chemistry. He has four master's degrees: (i) Official Master in Chemical Technology, (ii) Integrated Master of Management of Quality, Environment and Occupational Risks, (iii) Master in Energies Renewables and Energy Efficiency and (iv) Master in Creation of Grassroots Companies Technological. Doctor in Chemical Engineering in 2008 from the University of Murcia with Mention European Doctorate and Extraordinary Doctorate Award in the area of Chemical Engineering. He has carried out research stays at prestigious universities such as Delft University of Technology (Holland), the University of Nottingham (UK) and the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Toulouse (France).

His research topics is related with bioprocess in ionic liquids, microbial fuel cell and hydrogen fuel cell and reaction and separations processes with neoteric solvents such as supercritical fluids and ionic liquids. Specifically, he has development new material (cathodes and membranes) and configurations for microbial fuel cell and hydrogen fuel cell, new bioprocesses in neoteric solvents and new process extraction using supercritical carbon dioxide and ionic liquids. From his research work, more than 200 articles have been published in scientific journals and books. He has also published 3 national patents and 2 European patents. He has collaborated with research groups of different nationality (UK, The Netherlands, Morocco, Túnez, Argelia, Indian).

He is a member of the Chemical Engineering Section of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry. He has been a national, European, and international research project evaluator. He has participated in more than 30 research projects, half of them as main researcher. He has edited a book at Elsevier entitled "Ionic Liquids in Separation Technology”. He has participated and leaded scientific dissemination program during more than 15 years at social, school and university levels such us “Campus de la Ingeniería” and “Semana de la Ciencia”. His investigations have been disseminated in newspapers (La Razón), on radio (Cadena Ser-La ventana) and on television (newscast on Saturday night of Antena 3).
