New technology for the development of biofuel: Biodiesel and bioethanol
The present instability of the petroleum market, the limited availability of crude oil, refineries reaching their peak production and the impact of the use of petroleum-based fuels on the environment, have all had a positive impact on the spread of alternative and renewable fuels, such us biodiesel and bioethanol.
Our group works in the development of sustainable processes for the production of biofuels from non edible oils and residual biomass. The strategies employed in the production of biofuels include the use of neoteric solvents (supercritical fluids and ionic liquids) and bio- and/or chemocatalysis and the development of integrated reaction/separation processes.
